Nightscape Pictures Taken Manually While Fighting the Bitter Cold

Seoul, Korea – On January 15, I rode on my bicycle to Yeoksam-dong during the day to take care of a few tasks, and on the way back at night, I felt the weather gradually getting colder, despite it being warm during the day. My hands and feet started getting cold because I didn¡¯t wear thick clothing due to the warm daytime weather. Still, I noticed how beautiful the night scenery and full moon was, and despite the bitter cold, decided to stop and take a few pictures for a couple hours, starting on my way back from Cheonho-dong, following the Han River¡¯s night scenery.

Although usually you would use a tripod for night scenery, I made do with my bike¡¯s saddle,

columns and stairs, as well as a few stones. It was a foolhardy attempt as I knew the composition and structure of the pictures wouldn¡¯t come out as good compared to using a tripod.

Even though I tried my best given the circumstances, I couldn¡¯t find a single picture of being worthy during those two hours. I began to realize that I was still a long ways away from becoming a photography master.

Although my camera¡¯s battery was at 50% when I started taking pictures, it soon went dead after taking so many pictures. After a while I began to get hungry and felt too cold and decided to head on home on my bike back to Cheonho-dong.

-Glimmering Seongsu Bridge-

I left the bicycle¡¯s lights on to take the picture below, leading to a ¡®will-o-wisp¡¯-like lighting effect.

Although I couldn¡¯t capture the full moon¡¯s glorious silvery reflection this time, I had to make do with this reflection with Seongsu Bridge in the background.

-Chungdam Bridge-

Chungdam Bridge, known as being ever-beautiful, because of the pier lights¡¯ illusory effects.

Yeongdong Bridge, the bridge across from Chungdam Bridge. The blue lights usually come on one by one, but as luck would have it, they all came on the moment I took this picture. This picture was taken on top of my bike¡¯s saddle by using a timer, while blowing warm air on my freezing hands.

I had to sacrifice composition because I couldn¡¯t level off my breathing..

An outdoor drive-in theatre in Jamsil wharf. There were a few cars parked outside but it was so cold I hurriedly snapped this photo and left.

This picture was taken near Chungdam Bridge, around Jamsil¡¯s Han River Park. I had to hold my breath to take this picture as there was no place to place my camera.

Picture of a restaurant whose lights looked like a rainbow, near Jamsil wharf. Taken from the steps of the restaurant.

When I saw this ferry turning around in the water at Jamsil wharf, I had to take the picture.

Since the ferry¡¯s lights were so bright, I was able to take continuous pictures while zooming in and out.
